Swapping the slopes for the silver screen
Born and raised in Cumbria, the biggest selling newspaper in the region recently interviewed our Founder and Director, Cameron Hall about the launch of the Four Seasons Film Festival, currently open for submissions.
Cameron spoke with journalist Matthew Cobb from the News & Star with an excerpt from the interview below:
"A former ski instructor from Cumbria who swapped the slopes for the silver screen is calling on producers and directors from across the county to be part of his first film festival.
Cameron Hall, who learned to ski while at school in Keswick, travelled the world teaching others how to master the piste. But, after returning to England, he took a PR job based in London.
The role saw him combine his love of skiing with helping to organise and promote a range of events – prompting him to start his very own festival, which will be held next year.
“After working in PR, I wanted to do something myself so I set up Holmlands, a media and events business, last October,” Cameron, 33, told the News & Star. “Holmlands hosts the MSP Film Tour, which involves skiing films and has toured throughout the UK. It was after that I decided to set up the Four Seasons Film Festival.
“I've always been interested in film. I grew up in St Bees and I remember as a child going to the cinema in Whitehaven and the queues outside. Film and the media have changed a lot since then, though.”
The event will be held at the prestigious Cadogan Hall in Sloan Square next February – and will stay true to its name with films to be shown covering each season.
“On February 3 we'll be showing films based on the themes of spring and summer,” Cameron explained. So for spring, films will be about new beginnings hope and freedom, and then for summer the themes will be joy, empowerment and celebration.
“On February 4, the films will be based on autumn and winter, so for autumn the themes will be along the lines of change and transition while winter will be factual films and films about real life.”
